Shanti, JK,

That's the reason I pointed you to the review :) The substance of the "critique" can be summed in two words: personal attack.

The book has been completely debunked by scientists and environmentalists. As the NRDC says, no wonder it's called science fiction.

NRDC: http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/fcrichton.asp

Real Climate (Climate Change Blog):
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=74#more-74

Yes, I have a vested interest in this debate and I'm a member of both NRDC and th Sierra Club. 'State of Fear' is fiction. It's not a treatise on climate change.

Lot of people are going to get upset with this book. At the end, the environmentalists look like jokers and terrorists and there is enough drubbing of the Kyoto treaty. This guy could not even look up one bit of evidence to counter Crichton's argument and he had no issues with all previous novels. So you know where the trigger came from.

As a work of fiction, this is not his best writing. But the idea expressed in very contrarian and hence its noveltly.

The funny thing though Sandeep, is that the reviewer just keeps blustering against Crichton without any real substance to back him up...
