His tinkering with the then prevailing indian social norms led to vellore mutiny and his downfall. Yet 30 years later as governer general he went on to suppress sati. I didn't know that these earlier mutinies existed - localized though it may have been. Didn't Kamalahasan plan on making a movie on one such mutiny (Veerapaandi Kattabomman, I believe)?
