Forgotten Indians: Ram Prasad Bismil

It was the evening of the 9th of August 1925; the number eight down train was passing near Kakori. Ramaprasad and his nine revolutionary followers pulled the chain and stopped it. They looted the money belonging to the government, deposited in the Guard's carriage. Excepting that one passenger was killed by an accidental shot, there was no bloodshed.

This extremely well planned dacoity jolted the government. After a month of detailed preliminary inquiries and elaborate preparations the government cast its net wide for the revolutionaries. Arrest warrants were issued not only against the ten participants but also against other leaders of the Hindusthan Republican Association. With the lone exception of Chandrashekhar Azad, all participants were caught.

On 19th December 1927, Ramprasad was hanged to death.

Incidentally, Ramprasad Bismil wrote, "Sarfaroshi ki tamanna"

JK:

Quizman, thanks. Did not know that. I was thinking about the role of Chandrashekar Azad. He was in touch with revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Ram Prasad Bismil etc.

Yeah, the park in Allahabad where Chandrashekar Azad shot himself (he had one bullet left) was renamed as Azad park after independance. Mayawati wanted to rename it as Ambedkar park. [Azad ws a brahmin]

i.e apart from the two institutions mentioned in the article.

Raju Bhave:

After sacrifising so many lives of the great people we are back to square on. People dont understand that they should strengthen the nation. Instead of doing that they are dividing it. And these politicians are no less. They are only bothered for their position so that they can loot enough money.Shame on such leaders.

Aashish:

will any one of you tell where could get the entire poem "Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna"?
If any of you has it please send me .I wud love to have it.

Anil Sharma:

can anyone tell me about any other poetry of Bismil exept "sarfaroshi ki ..."

RDB said as much about Bismil, did it not? Even put in stuff about Bismil and Asfaqullah(i think?).
